Game drive: Kafue National Park Zambia

From our Zambia Safari lodge and our Busanga Plains Bush Camp we offer Game Drives. A game drive in an open vehicle is one of the most exciting ways to explore the bush. We’ll take you deep into the unspoiled wilderness of Kafue National Park while one of our highly experienced guides tells you everything about the animals you encounter.

Morning Game Drive

The game drives take 3 to 4 hours. Your morning drive starts at first light. You will see the bush wake up. On the way you’ll see elephant, lion, monkey and impala catch the early sun. Half way we’ll serve you coffee, tea and home made biscuits. The game drive returns back to the lodge around 10.00 hours where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast.

Afternoon-evening game drive

Around 16.00 hours your afternoon-evening game drive starts. Again we’ll take you out to explore the park. Just before sunset we’ll stop so you can enjoy a sundowner. After the sun sets you will experience the African bush at night. It is a perfect way to find and watch nocturnal animals like porcupine, civet, honey badger and off course predators like the African wildcat, lion and the elusive leopard.

Wildlife Kafue National Park

With 158 different species, Kafue National Park has one of the highest diversities of mammal of all national parks in the world. Our birdlife is also spectacular. Over 515 species of birds inhabit the park and surrounding areas. Wattled and crowned crane, saddle billed stork, ground horn bill, fish eagle, African finfoot and Chaplin’s Barbet to name a few.

Every game drive is an adventure. You never know what you will encounter on the way. That is also the charm of the African bush. Always expect the unexpected.

What is really special about Kafue National Park is something you will not realize immediately, but only after a few hours of exploring: there is no mass tourism here. You might encounter one or two vehicles, or none, the whole day. This makes Kafue one of the last true wilderness areas in Africa.
