Beginning of season

The 7th of April has seen the first game drive along the northern access road towards Lufupa, although not graded this road seems to have held up rather well over the rainy season. Our first guests in the area came across a fantastic big black maned Kafue Lion sauntering along the bush track, carefully watched by small herds of Impala. In fact recent sightings have yielded a fantastic array of wonderful sightings, from usually elusive Bushpigs digging up tasty tubers, to different packs of Wild Dogs playfully inquisitive of our game drive vehicles. Another fantastic note is that in April our Lion sighting success rate on game drives was 90%! Other notable sightings have included Fish Eagles mobbing a Goliath Heron (from camp!), a wonderful coalition of 3 Cheetah just 2 kms from camp, plus more Elephants and Buffalo than you can shake a stick at!

In non wildlife related news, we at Mukambi Lodge were delighted to house a recent week long field course for the top Guides of the Kafue National Park to converge and discuss in detail the best ways to enhance guiding standards within the Kafue and potentially further afield. We welcomed one of the top guide trainers from SA, Mr. Brian Rode who headed the discussions.

The cooling nights are a sure sign it is now almost time to begin work on the upgrading and annual building at our fantastic bushcamp on the vast, shimmering plains of Busanga, a place and a camp not to be missed out on!

Come and visit us at Mukambi Safari Lodge and Mukambi Plains Camp, this season is set to be a cracker!
