Born in 1852, Antoni Gaudí became one of Spain's most famous architects and the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. He is particularly renowned for his study of nature and how he reflected the anarchaic and geometric forms found in nature in his work. Gaudí also stood out as an interior decorator and usually decorated all the interiors of his buildings personally.
Between 1984 and 2005, UNESCO declared seven of his works as World Heritage sites. Some of his most famous works in Barcelona include:
1. Park Güell - Built from 1900 to 1914, Park Güell is a refelection of Gaudí 's naturalist phase
2. Casa Batlló - Now a museum, this house is considered one of Gaudí 's masterpieces
3. Casa Milà - Popularly known as the "stone quarry", this was the last private residence designed by Gaudí
4. La Familia Sagrada - Gaudí began work on this Basilica in 1883 and it is still unfinished. Gaudí himself is buried in the crypt
