The Mukambi/Busanga/Chikunto package includes 2 nights at Mukambi Lodge and 3 nights in Busanga and 5 nights at Chikunto Safaris, located inside the South Luangwa National Park, on the famous Big Bend Site of the Luangwa River. Guests travelling by road would have to spend a night at Mukambi Lodge on either side of the 3 Busanga nights. Itinerary Days 1-6: Mukambi, Busanga Plains Camp

Lusaka: Meet & Greet at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (or other location in Lusaka) with your private transfer guide. Transfer to Mukambi Safari Lodge for tea break and afternoon activities to include a sunset boat cruise or afternoon game drive. Or, simply relax at the lodge by taking take a dip in the pool or enjoy a massage. Dinner and overnight at Mukambi Safari Lodge.

Busanga Plains Camp: Game drive en-route to the Busanga Plains, stopping on the way for a packed tea and coffee.  Lunch on arrival at Busanga Plains Camp and a chance to relax around the pool and settle into your tent,  followed by tea and cakes before the afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Busanga Plains Camp. Morning activities on day 6 & 7 to include a game drive or guided bush walk on the Busanga Plains. Or, simply relax at the camp by taking a dip in the pool or reading a book on our viewing platform overlooking the Plains.

Mukambi Safari Lodge: Game drive from Busanga Plains Camp to Mukambi Safari Lodge. Enjoy a late brunch with a chance to relax around the pool and settle into your tent, followed by teatime and afternoon activities, including a sunset boat cruise or afternoon game drive. Or, simply relax at the lodge or enjoy a massage. Dinner and overnight at Mukambi Safari Lodge.

Depending on guest’s travel itinerary, morning activities include a game drive or guided bush walk in Kafue National Park. Alternatively, spend time on the river on a fishing trip or visit our community school. Or, simply relax at the lodge by taking take a dip in the pool or enjoy a massage, followed by departure for Lusaka by private transfer for your onward journey to South Luangwa.

Itinerary Days 6-11: Chikunto, South Luangwa

Chikunto Safari Lodge: From Lusaka Airport you will connect to a light aircraft flight to Mfuwe airstrip (1 hour)- South Luangwa. On arrival, you will be welcomed by a representative of the intimate Chikunto Safari Lodge and a safari vehicle will transfer you on a scenic drive to the camp.

 

The early part of the afternoon is yours for relaxation, and you may wish to book a massage treatment on your room deck overlooking the Luangwa River, to help you unwind. Please speak with the onsite Operations Manager if you want to book a treatment for any day during your stay.

 

Mid-afternoon, come up to the main lodge area for high tea, after which you will depart on an afternoon/ evening game drive, stopping for sundowners before your return night game drive, complete with spotlights. Meet for pre-dinner drinks, followed by a 3-course dinner, after which you can relax around the fire and enjoy your drinks with your host.

After breakfast, depart the lodge for a game drive and spend the rest of your day at leisure with optional activities. Later meet for pre-dinner drinks, followed by a three-course dinner, after which you can relax around the fire and enjoy drinks with your host.

You also have the option to upgrade to a Deluxe Suite linked by a private walkway to your own elevated stargazing and sleep-out platform. Fall asleep looking up at the stars and listening to the sounds of the African bush!

After breakfast, enjoy an early morning walking safari. An alternative to this is relaxing by the swimming pool or treating yourself to one of many massage treatments offered in the in-suite spa. Later meet for afternoon tea and depart for an afternoon game drive and sundowner. Pre-dinner drinks are followed by a three-course dinner, after which you can relax around the fire and enjoy drinks with your host.

Indulge in an optional full-day game drive, with picnic and drinks. The location and duration is tailor-made according to the latest animal sightings and guests’ preferences.

Return for leisure time in the afternoon or even back for 7:00pm. Meet for pre-dinner drinks, followed by a three-course dinner, after which you can relax around the fire and enjoy Drinks with your host.

For a cultural experience, visit a nearby local village, followed by a visit to Mulberry Mongoose, a jewellery brand, whereby the accessories are hand-crafted by local ladies from the South Luangwa using organic materials originating from the African bush. You have an option for a half-day visit to Conservation South Luangwa for an interactive presentation on their amazing conservation and Human Wildlife Conflict work. (extra costs/contribution applies)

You may also opt for staying in house relaxing by the swimming pool or treating yourself to one of many massage treatments offered in the in-suite spa. After a tasty breakfast, and one last morning activity (time permitting), you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport in time for your short flight onto Lusaka International Airport.

An All-Inclusive stay at Chikunto Safari Lodge includes all meals and snacks, all soft drinks, water, wine, beers, spirits and laundry services. Two game viewing activities per day i.e. game drives, boat cruises (depending on season), cultural visits to a local School / Village, visits to Craft Shops in Mfuwe (see Mulberry Mongoose), plus walking safaris.

What's not included
  • Domestic flights to and from Mfuwe are excluded, budget for c. $600 pp for all internal flights from Lusaka, exact prices can vary.

Other Information

All rates are quoted in US$ per person per night sharing. A single supplement of 30% applies during the peak season.

  • Fully Inclusive rates include accommodation, all meals, 2 activities per day, and drinks. Excludes National Park fees and Bed Night Levies.
  • Children under the age of 12yrs pay half price and children under 4yrs stay for free. Children 12yrs and older pay the full rate.

Mukambi Safari Lodge Consists of 10 chalets and 4 safari tents:

  • One Luxury Riverside Family Villa with 2 ensuite bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin), spacious lounge, verandah. Sleeps 4.
  • One Family Chalet with 2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin) and shared bathroom. Sleeps 4.
  • Eight rondavel Chalets (4 twin, 4 double – fixed) all ensuite.
  • Four Luxury Safari Tents all ensuite (reserved for guests booking safari packages in peak season).

Fig Tree Bush Camp – Complete with main Boma and pool and star bed.

  • Four Luxury Safari Tents all en suite (2 twin, 2 double).

Laundry is included for all guests and is available at each camp.

The transfer between Mukambi and Busanga is by open game drive vehicle and takes around 6 hours, including breakfast. For Fig
Tree, the drive is 1hr 30 minutes to camp. The transfer for both bush-camps is through the National Park.

Children’s Policy:

  • Mukambi Safari Lodge:
    • Children of all ages are welcome to join their parents on game drives and will be held fully responsible for their safety.
    • Children under 12 and 4 years and older pay 50% providing they are sharing with adults. Children younger than 4 stay free.
  • Fig Tree Bush Camp & Busanga Plains Camp:
    • Only children 12 and older are allowed at Fig Tree and Busanga.
    • Guests with children and/or young adults will be either grouped together or given a separate vehicle.

Road Transfer Rates:
